Bourbon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 19,985. Bourbon County is part of the Lexington–Fayette, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the remnant of what was previously a much larger Bourbon County. The area later became known as Old Bourbon in reference to its historical expanse. The county is best known for its historical association with bourbon whiskey.

Fayette County is a county located in the U.S. Commonwealth of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 295,803, making it the second-most populous county in Kentucky. Its territory, population and government are coextensive with the city of Lexington, which also serves as county seat. Woodford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 24,939. Its county seat is Versailles. It was named for William Woodford, an American Revolutionary War general from Virginia who died while a prisoner of war in 1780. It was the last of the original nine counties established that formed the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1792. Queen Elizabeth II stayed in Woodford County at Lane’s End Farm in May 2007.

The county is named for Virginia statesman James Madison, who later became the fourth President of the United States. Scott is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 47,173. Its county seat is Georgetown. Scott County was explored as early as 1774. One of the early settlers was John McClelland of Pennsylvania. However, the area was subjected to hostile Indian attacks, and it was abandoned by 1777.

Montgomery County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,499. Its county seat is Mount Sterling. With regard to the sale of alcohol, it is classified as a moist county—a county in which alcohol sales are prohibited (a dry county), but containing a “wet” city where package alcohol sales are allowed, in this case Mount Sterling.

Jessamine County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2014, the population was 50,815. Its county seat is Nicholasville. The county was founded in December 1798. Jessamine County is part of the Lexington-Fayette, KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is within the Inner Blue Grass region, long a center of farming and blooded stock raising, including thoroughbred horses. The legislature established a commercial wine industry here in the late 18th century.

Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 49,285. Its county seat is Frankfort, the state capital. The county was formed in 1795 from parts of Woodford, Mercer and Shelby counties, and was named after the American inventor and statesman Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was the 18th Kentucky county in order of formation.

Mercer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,331. Its county seat is Harrodsburg. The county was formed from Lincoln County in 1785 and is named for Revolutionary War General Hugh Mercer, who was killed at the Battle of Princeton in 1777. It is a prohibition or dry county, though Harrodsburg and Pleasant Hill allow the sale of alcohol by the drink.

The county was formed in 1827 and named for Richard Clough Anderson, Jr., a Kentucky legislator, U.S. Congressman and Minister to Colombia. Anderson County is part of the Frankfort, KY Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Lexington-Fayette-Richmond-Frankfort, KY Combined Statistical Area.
